Kalkan is a former fishing village on the Lycian coast west of Kaş, rising like an amphitheatre around a bay. It is known for its whitewashed stone houses with wooden bay windows, narrow bougainvillea-covered lanes and rooftop restaurants, while the small harbour is the town's evening meeting point. The surrounding hillsides are dotted with villas with pools and sea views. Patara, with its long sandy beach and ancient city, and Kaputaş Beach set between cliffs are both easy to reach from Kalkan.
Much of the accommodation in Kalkan is in holiday villas spread across the hills around town, so it is important to enter the villa name, its full address and, if possible, the neighbourhood when booking. Some villa roads are steep and narrow, so if necessary your driver will drop you at the closest accessible point. Adding the villa owner's or manager's contact details to the notes can also help.
