Üsküdar is a long-established district on the Asian side at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus, looking across to the European shore. The Maiden's Tower, the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, Beylerbeyi Palace and the hilltop Çamlıca Mosque are among its landmarks. The colourful wooden houses of Kuzguncuk and the waterside cafés of Çengelköy show a quieter side of Üsküdar, while ferries leave its piers for Eminönü, Karaköy and Beşiktaş.
Reaching Üsküdar from Istanbul Airport means crossing to the opposite shore of the Bosphorus. As Sabiha Gökçen is also an option for flights from the Asian side, check which airport is on your ticket before booking. Cars cannot always enter the narrow streets of Kuzguncuk and Çengelköy to reach houses and boutique hotels; in that case your driver drops you at the closest accessible point.
