Balçova is a small but busy district in western İzmir, set between the gulf shore and green hills. It is famous for thermal springs known since antiquity; according to legend, Agamemnon's soldiers were healed here, which is why the baths are also called the Agamemnon Springs. A cable car climbing into the hills, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, İzmir University of Economics and a large shopping centre are also in the district.
If you are coming to Balçova for medical treatment, a thermal stay or a university visit, write the name of the hospital, spa facility or campus in your booking notes, ideally with the entrance or block you need. Your driver can then take you straight to that entrance or the closest accessible point.
